Asuransi Jasindo works harder on casualty insurance
Source : Bisnis Indonesia (3rd October 2006)
PT. Asuransi Jasa Indonesia collected Rp. 28.94 billion in casualty premium by
June 2006 amidst the low demand for this product.
Eko Wari Santoso, Senior Manager of Engineering & Casualty Jasindo disclosed
that the premium contributed by casualty insurance in 2005 was Rp. 34.46
billion, 41.46 % higher than 2004 which was Rp. 24.36 billion.
He said to Bisnis last week that he was hopeful this year’s outcome will be
better than last year. He, however, did not say what the target premium for 2006
was. According to him, the relatively low demand for this product may be due to
the fact that not many people have been aware of its advantage.
Based on data collected by Finance Department, the growth of casualty insurance
is very small compared with the total growth of general insurance. The casualty
insurance premium only makes up to 1.4 % to 1.7 % of the total general insurance
income.
In 2004 the casualty insurance premium income was Rp. 253.93 billion, out of Rp.
14.93 trillion coming from general insurance income. The 2004 premium income
was, however, higher than the year before which was Rp. 181.6 billion.
To boost casualty insurance performance, Eko said that Jasindo will aim for
expatriates since they have higher awareness for insurance protection. To reach
the aim, Jasindo has trained its staff in branch offices such as Bali branch, as
there are many expatriates on the island.
