| Company History in Brief |
PT. Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Persero) or Asuransi Jasindo came into existence following a very long struggle dating back as early as 1845, as a result of the nationalization of a number of colonial Dutch Insurance companies in 1845 such as NV Assurantie Maatshsppij de Nederlander and Bloom Vander, both of which domiciled in Jakarta. Exactly 100 years after the nationalization, Indonesia proclaimed its independence in 1945, leading to the nationalization of Dutch and British insurance companies which then became PT. Asuransi Bendasraya as general insurance operating in rupiah currency and PT. Umum Internationl
Underwriters (PT. UIU) a general insurance company operating in foreign
currency.
This nationalization was meant to give a maximum advantage to the people, to strengthen the security and economy of the nation and to serve as an apparatus for the country economy. The policy that regulates nationalization was established under Act Number 86 in the year 1958 concerning the nationalization of Dutch companies existing within the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. To give PT. Bendasraya and PT. UIU a bigger role to play in independence era, the Government through the Finance Minister Decree No. 764/MK/IV/12/1972 dated 9 December 1972 conducted a merger between PT. Asuransi Bendasraya and PT. Umum International Underwriters to become PT. Asuransi Jasa Indonesia (Persero). This merger was later legalized by Notarial Deed No. 1 dated 2 June 1973 drawn up before Mohamad Ali,
Notary.
